Mark “Oz” Geist is a former U.S. Marine and CIA security contractor renowned for his heroism during the 2012 Benghazi attack in Libya. As a member of the CIA Annex Security Team, he played a pivotal role in defending the U.S. diplomatic compound and CIA annex during the 13-hour siege, actions for which he is credited with saving over 25 lives. Geist co-authored the bestselling book 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi, which was later adapted into a 2016 film directed by Michael Bay, with actor Max Martini portraying him.
Beyond his military service, Geist has served as a sheriff and police chief, and he now dedicates his efforts to supporting private military contractors and their families through the Shadow Warriors Project, a nonprofit organization he founded. He is also a sought-after keynote speaker, sharing insights on leadership, resilience, and teamwork drawn from his extraordinary experiences.
